Proto (a subsidiary of Block) is a startup dedicated to decentralized bitcoin mining through two major products. On the hardware side is Rig, a rack-mounted super-computer ingeniously designed to be easily repaired and upgraded. On the software side is Fleet, mining management designed to work with Rig.

Steven Knodel at Block came to us with a pretty specific idea of what typeface was going to support this, but nonetheless we took every opportunity to leave no stone unturned in the discovery and sketching phase. We ended with a suite of two variable fonts that tackle display typography for the brand in every way from subtle and sophisticated to completely chaotic.
