A gantry is an overhead carriage that serves as a movable platform for industrial equipment. On a CNC router, the gantry is the part that has the router mounted to it. Routers can’t drill square holes, so CNC machinists use a design technique called “dog bones” to make pieces fit together. Those weird sorts of negative shapes inspired Gantry. Similar to the gantry—a part of a CNC router but not specific to it—Gantry is influenced by CNC machining, but intended for use in other areas as well.
