OH no Type Co. is a digital type foundry based in San Jose, CA. The foundry publishes retail and custom typefaces with the intent of making graphic design fun for everyone from freelancers to international design agencies, to your next door neighbor Jim.

James Edmondson started OH no in 2015, with a background in lettering, and a deep appreciation for lively typefaces that are uniquely beautiful, and fun to read. The goal has always been to create quality work that highlights under appreciated genres, respects history without reinventing the wheel. Organic over geometric, lively over perfect, and good spacing above all else.

Colin Ford

Colin is our Senior Type Director & Font Engineer at OH no Type Co. He holds an MA in typeface design from the TypeMedia program at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, Netherlands (same as James!). Before joining Ohno, for more than a decade he was a Typeface Designer at Hoefler & Co, and later, when they were acquired, an Advanced Font Engineer at Monotype. These days, Colin designs Ohno's retail and custom projects along with Jamie and James, and engineers our fonts and tools. He also teaches a yearly font production course for the Type@Cooper program at the Cooper Union, and has given talks and workshops at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and Type West at the Letterform Archive.

Sadie Fenton

Sadie’s responsibilities at Ohno include art directing and shipping out merch, some admin, and managing our social media. Sadie is a mother of two, and doesn’t have time for too much else!

Jamie Otelsberg

Jamie is our Studio Admin and along with customer service, handles lots of organizational stuff. She also works with James and Colin on custom and retail projects as a Type Designer/Font Production Assistant. Jamie graduated from Type West at the Letterform Archive in 2021. She's originally from Agoura, California and now lives happily in Bochum, Germany.

Lynn Barber

Lynn is Ohno’s business manager. She oversees all client and custom work, assists customers with licensing inquiries, and creates tailored enterprise licenses for corporate usage. Working closely with our lawyer, Lynn spearheaded Ohno’s flexible unlimited EULA program. With over 20 years in the type industry, and a BS in Communications from Emerson College, she also uses her expertise as a consultant for other independent type foundries. Outside of Ohno, she can be found organizing workshops for Type and Lettering, hunting for vintage mid-century goods, volunteering at the local food bank, making a mean bowl of kichari, and chilling with her husband and two kids.

James Edmondson

James is a type designer based in Oakland, California. He studied graphic design at California College of the Arts, and graduated from the Royal Academy of Art TypeMedia program in the Netherlands. Through his foundry OH no Type Co., he creates custom and retail typefaces. In 2018, James co-founded Future Fonts, a platform for distributing fonts in-progress. James teaches type design in the Extended Program at Type West and occasional workshops through Type@Cooper.
